Ryan Gosling’s SNL monologue took an unexpected turn when Harry Styles made a surprise appearance in the audience, leading to a series of unscripted moments that captivated the audience.

The Unexpected Interruption

As Ryan Gosling began his monologue on the recent episode of Saturday Night Live, he was caught off guard by the presence of Harry Styles, a renowned pop star and former One Direction member, seated in the front row. Gosling paused mid-sentence, his eyes scanning the audience before he asked, ‘Is that Harry Styles?’

The camera panned to Styles, who was seated with a small smile on his face. The crowd erupted in cheers, and Gosling, visibly surprised, remarked, ‘Uh, what are you doing here, man?’ Styles responded with a playful tone, explaining that he was hosting the following week and wanted to get a sense of the SNL atmosphere.

Professional Etiquette and Humor

Gosling praised Styles’ professionalism, saying, ‘God, that’s so professional. That’s awesome.’ He then resumed his monologue, jokingly mentioning his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary, and comparing it to classics like E.T. and Interstellar.

‘Which is crazy, because those are like, what, two of the best films of all-time? Kind of like saying it’s like, what, double that?’ Gosling added, showing his admiration for space-themed films.

As Gosling transitioned into a more emotional speech about the importance of Earth, the camera cut to Styles, who appeared to be seriously listening. Gosling, noticing the split screen, joked, ‘I’m sorry, why are we on Harry Styles?’

Split Screen and Unscripted Moments

The moment took a comedic turn when the camera operator was revealed to be wearing an ‘I [heart] Harry’ shirt. Gosling, visibly amused, decided to abandon his planned dance number and instead referenced his co-star Sandra Huller, who sings Harry Styles’ ‘Sign Of The Times’ in Project Hail Mary.

‘In the movie, there’s this song. It’s a karaoke sang. Sandra Huller sings it. It’s very poignant and the anthem of our generation. Some have said it’s called Sign Of The Times and oh my God, it’s by Harry Styles!’ Gosling said as he began to sing the lyrics, only to stop when Styles appeared on the screen.

Gosling attempted to sing ‘I’m Just Ken’ from Barbie but failed, prompting SNL comedian Mikey Day to comfort him with a cheek kiss. The actor then noticed the entire SNL cast had joined him on stage, joking, ‘You guys all came to help me? Because I’m, like, your favorite host of all time?’

The cast admitted they had only come to get a better look at Harry Styles. Styles waved to the cast before they all belted out more lyrics to ‘Sign Of The Times,’ which concluded the opening monologue.

Gosling’s film Project Hail Mary is set to hit theaters on March 20 and stars Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung. The film follows a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship and must uncover a mission to save Earth.

Harry Styles, meanwhile, has been keeping busy with the release of his fourth studio album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, on March 6. The album has been receiving positive reviews and is expected to chart highly in the coming weeks.
