London Gatwick Airport has signed on again as headline sponsor for the Crawley Community Awards 2026. The annual event honors residents who volunteer their time and skills to improve life in the West Sussex town.
A Gatwick spokesperson highlighted the airport’s commitment to the area. “Our vision at London Gatwick is to be the airport for everyone, whatever your journey,” the spokesperson said. The airport handled about 43 million passengers in the past year via 57 airlines flying to more than 220 destinations.
As the UK’s second-busiest airport, Gatwick drives significant economic impact locally. It sustains nearly 12,000 jobs in Crawley and injects over £860 million into the borough’s economy each year, according to airport figures.
Gatwick invests heavily in community ties. Its education program reached 240,000 student encounters in 2025, including many from Crawley schools and colleges. The spokesperson called the awards a perfect platform to celebrate unsung local contributors. “We are delighted to once again be headline sponsors for the fantastic Crawley Community Awards,” the statement read.
Nominations opened this week for individuals and groups in categories spanning volunteering, charities, education and sports. Entrants must live, work, volunteer or study in Crawley. An independent panel will review submissions and select shortlists.
Winners will take the stage at The Hawth theatre in May. Organizers expect a strong turnout, as the awards draw widespread participation each year. The event highlights Crawley’s vibrant community spirit, they said.

Gatwick’s renewed backing comes amid its push to expand local benefits. The airport recently boosted workforce training initiatives, aligning with its goal of inclusive growth. Community leaders welcomed the news, noting the awards’ role in spotlighting everyday achievements.
Last year’s event featured dozens of nominees, with winners from fields like youth sports and food bank operations. Organizers anticipate even more entries for 2026, fueled by the town’s active volunteer networks.
