Jonathan Andic. The son of Turkish-born fashion mogul Isak Andic, was taken into custody in early 2025 and questioned by police about his father’s death; Isak, 71, died in December 2024 after falling from a ravine during a hike in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona. The incident initially sparked conflicting reports about whether Jonathan was the only one present or if other family members were with them.

Contradictions in Testimony Spark Reopening of Case

Investigators in Catalonia had initially closed the case in early 2025, finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing — However, the case was reopened later that year after discrepancies were found in Jonathan’s testimony. These inconsistencies reportedly included his location when the fall occurred, where he parked his car, and whether he took photographs during the outing.

Jonathan appeared before a judge. Who ordered his detention with bail set at €1 million (£865,000), and required him to surrender his passport and report to the court weekly. He was released on bail after appearing in a closed-door hearing where he answered questions for an hour, according to The Independent.

Family and Company Respond

The Andic family issued a statement saying, “Jonathan Andic is appearing before the court in connection with the accident which occurred on 14 December 2024. At this moment, we cannot add more because a secrecy order has been placed over the case. Our collaboration has and will be total.” A family spokesperson also told Reuters that Jonathan was being questioned and that the family was confident of his innocence.

Isak Andic co-founded Mango with his brother, Nahman, in 1984 in Barcelona. The company now operates nearly 3,000 outlets in 120 countries. At the time of his death, Forbes estimated Isak’s net worth at $4.5 billion (£3.6 billion). Mango CEO Toni Ruiz said Isak’s death “would leave a huge void,” adding that everyone at the company is “his legacy and the testimony of his achievements.”

Isak was known for elevating Mango’s profile by inviting high-profile models like Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Kendall Jenner to his collections. He was also a close friend of Spain’s Queen Letizia, who paid tribute to him after his death. Isak’s death occurred during a large-scale emergency operation involving helicopters and search teams, but he suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
