Pattaya City officials have contracted Bangsaen Mahanakhon Co., Ltd. to carry out a thorough road resurfacing project along the Western Railway Road, stretching from Huay Yai Intersection to Highway 36. The initiative is designed to address the deteriorating road surface and enhance convenience and safety for all users.

Project Scope and Phased Construction

The construction work will use a recycling method along the entire route, which requires the temporary closure of the Western Railway Road from March 10 to March 31, 2026. The first phase of the project will focus on the section from Chaiyaphon Withi Intersection to Nong Ket Yai. Subsequent phases will extend the resurfacing to Highway 36 and eventually to Huay Yai Intersection.

According to the Public Relations Division of Pattaya City’s Tourism and Sports Department, the segment between Nong Ket Noi and Nong Ket Yai Intersections is nearing completion. Asphalt concrete surfacing is currently underway in this area, and it is expected to reopen to traffic on March 9, 2026, one day before the broader closure begins.

Alternative Routes and Traffic Management

To mitigate the impact of the closure, Pattaya City is advising motorists heading toward Chonburi to use alternative routes. Drivers are encouraged to turn left at railway intersections or sois before reaching Nong Ket Yai Intersection (Soi Matchstick Factory) to connect to Sukhumvit Road. This route is expected to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during the closure period.

Public buses and large trucks are also requested to avoid the affected routes due to limited turning space in the sois, which could pose safety risks and hinder traffic movement. The city has emphasized the importance of following traffic signs and adhering to official guidance to ensure the safety and order of all road users.

Pattaya City has expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and urges the public to plan their journeys in advance. Officials have reminded residents and visitors to follow the designated traffic management measures to minimize disruption.

Long-Term Implications and Future Development

The resurfacing of the Western Railway Road is part of a broader infrastructure improvement plan aimed at enhancing transportation efficiency in Pattaya. According to local transportation experts, the project is expected to reduce maintenance costs in the long term by using a recycling method, which is more sustainable and cost-effective compared to traditional road construction techniques.

The temporary closure of the road is a necessary step to ensure the quality and durability of the resurfacing work. Officials have stated that the project will be completed in phases to allow for partial access to certain sections of the road, minimizing the overall impact on daily commutes and local businesses.

With the completion of the project, the Western Railway Road is expected to see a significant improvement in road conditions, which could lead to increased traffic capacity and a reduction in travel time for commuters. These improvements are anticipated to benefit not only local residents but also the growing number of tourists who rely on efficient transportation to access Pattaya’s attractions.

The Public Relations Division of Pattaya City has reiterated its commitment to keeping the public informed about the progress of the project and any changes to the traffic management plan. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated through official channels to plan their travel accordingly.
