Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has outlined a bold vision for Tehri Lake, aiming to position it as a global hub for water and adventure sports. Speaking at the Tehri Lake Festival Himalayan-O2 2026 on Friday, Dhami emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the region as a center for national and international athletes.
Infrastructure Investments and Tourism Growth
Dhami highlighted that Rs 1.3 billion has already been allocated for the development of Tehri Lake and the construction of the Ring Road. This investment is part of a larger initiative under the Pratam Gram of Timan village, which seeks to enhance infrastructure and tourism in the region.
“Our government’s goal is to make Tehri an important place for water and adventure sports. A place where national and international athletes come for water sports and adventure sports,” Dhami said, emphasizing the focus on activities like kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, and scuba diving.
The Tehri Lake, located in the Tehri Garhwal district, is steadily becoming a major tourist attraction. With the increasing number of visitors from across India and abroad, the government is working to enhance the region’s appeal through infrastructure and sporting opportunities.
Support for Athletes and Youth Employment
Dhami encouraged athletes to pursue their dreams with dedication and self-confidence. He assured them of the government’s support, stating, “I would like to tell all our players that they should dedicate themselves to the sport, and they should carry this feeling with them in their lives.”
The chief minister also emphasized the role of tourism in creating employment opportunities for local youth. “Through tourism, new employment opportunities are being created for local youth,” he said, highlighting the economic benefits of developing Tehri as a sports and tourism destination.
Dhami’s comments reflect a broader strategy to revitalize Uttarakhand’s tourism sector, which has faced challenges in recent years due to environmental concerns and infrastructure limitations. Under his leadership, the state is seeking to redefine its identity as a destination for adventure and sustainable tourism.
Future Outlook and Regional Development
The Tehri Lake Festival Himalayan-O2 2026 is a significant event that brings together athletes, sports enthusiasts, and local communities. It is expected to provide a platform for showcasing the region’s natural beauty and sporting potential.
“We will continue our efforts to give more speed to the possibilities here and to give them wings. We have started this. We will work to move this forward,” Dhami said, indicating that the government is committed to long-term development.
Experts suggest that the investment in Tehri Lake could have a lasting impact on the local economy and environment. By promoting adventure sports and sustainable tourism, the government aims to balance economic growth with ecological preservation.
With the Rs 1.3 billion investment and ongoing development projects, Tehri Lake is on track to become one of the most significant sports and tourism hubs in the region. The success of this initiative will depend on continued government support, infrastructure development, and community engagement.
