Vodafone has launched a new TV streaming service in the UK that includes Netflix, HBO Max, and Freely as part of the package, according to VodafoneThree. The service, available from October, targets existing Vodafone customers with mobile or broadband plans, as it aims to simplify access to a range of entertainment offerings in a single package.

Streaming Features and Integration

The Vodafone TV box is a puck-style streamer that supports 4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos; it runs Android TV, allowing users to install various streaming services and games from the Google Play Store. Over 300 cloud-streamed games will be available at launch, using a smartphone or Bluetooth gamepad as a controller, according to the company.

The Freely service, included in the offering, provides access to over 150 live channels and on-demand content without the need for a traditional aerial — this aligns it more with Sky Stream than with EE TV or TalkTalk TV, according to Stuff.

Pricing and Promotions

While exact pricing has not yet been disclosed, Vodafone TV is expected to include Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads as part of the service. However, in Spain, Vodafone TV has increased the price of the Netflix bundle to €13.99 per month, a 56% increase, effective September 1, 2024, according to Roams.

To offset the price hike, Vodafone has launched a promotion for new customers under its Back to School campaign, as those who a 600MB fiber and mobile bundle can get up to three streaming platforms for free until January 1, 2027. The promotion includes a 60GB mobile line at €43 per month for one streaming platform and a 160GB line at €48 per month for two platforms, including the Vodafone TV decoder.

User Experience and AI Advertising

Users can manage their content through the Vodafone TV app, which allows for mobile viewing and personalized recommendations based on their viewing habits; the platform supports Google Assistant for voice-activated searches and is designed to integrate multiple streaming services into one interface, according to Stuff.

In support of the launch, Vodafone also released an titled Rhythm of Life, which uses 100% AI imagery, but the ad, directed by Sebastian Strasser and produced by agencies including New Commercial Arts, Design Bridge, and Partners, was created without any real-life footage. El Badry, Vodafone’s global senior brand manager, emphasized that while AI simplified the production, the creative direction, storytelling, and vision were entirely human-led; the campaign is being rolled out across social media, digital, and TV channels.
