A senior member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and National Coordinator of the Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), a support group for President Bola Tinubu, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has declared that President Tinubu is already significantly ahead of the opposition coalition in the race for Aso Rock, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Leadership and Reform: A Political Conviction
Alawuje, in an interview, stated that there is no credible and organised opposition to defeat President Tinubu in the 2027 election. He urged Nigerians to remain focused and not be swayed by the activities of the emerging coalition.
As the National Coordinator of the Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), Alawuje affirmed his continued motivation to campaign for Tinubu in 2027. He emphasized that the term ‘Disciples’ represents conviction, ideological commitment, and belief in progressive governance and transformational leadership.
Alawuje highlighted the transformation under President Tinubu’s leadership, particularly during his first term as Governor of Lagos State, where his reforms were initially unpopular but ultimately led to significant economic and infrastructural growth. He noted that despite opposition and criticism, Tinubu’s policies have resulted in Lagos becoming one of the most vibrant and economically viable subnational economies in Africa.
Election Reforms and Electoral Integrity
Alawuje commented on the recent inclusion of electronic transmission of election results in the proposed electoral reforms, calling it a major step forward in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process. He noted that this enhancement promotes transparency, improves accountability, and reduces the room for manipulation or disputes.
However, Alawuje acknowledged that while technology is an important tool, the credibility of elections ultimately depends on the collective commitment of institutions, political actors, and citizens to uphold the rule of law. He expressed confidence that the APC and President Tinubu have nothing to fear from a transparent and accountable electoral system.
He stated that with these reforms in place and properly implemented, Nigerians can be more assured that their votes will count and that the will of the people will be clearly reflected at the polls.
Key Achievements and Electoral Prospects
Alawuje outlined several key achievements he believes will contribute most to President Tinubu’s electoral success in 2027. These include the removal of fuel subsidies and fiscal reforms, which ended a major fiscal leak and created room for investments in infrastructure, social programmes, and state allocations.
Other notable achievements include foreign exchange unification and economic stabilisation, which restored transparency and improved investor confidence. Alawuje also highlighted the growth in non-oil revenue, revival of local refining and energy security, and infrastructure development across regions such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, rail development initiatives, and nationwide road rehabilitation.
He also mentioned social investment and support for vulnerable citizens through targeted cash transfers and social support programmes, as well as agriculture and food security initiatives aimed at boosting domestic food production and strengthening long-term food security.
Alawuje emphasized that President Tinubu’s governance background and political experience have enabled him to take decisive actions aimed at repositioning the country. He noted that while reforms are rarely easy, sustainable progress requires confronting difficult realities rather than postponing them.
Addressing National Insecurity
Alawuje acknowledged that insecurity has become a recurring issue in Nigeria and stated that addressing it requires a thorough approach that begins at the grassroots. He urged local and state governments, with strong federal backing, to reduce the level of hardship faced by citizens, particularly in rural areas.
He highlighted that poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion have unfortunately become automatic recruitment channels for criminal elements. Alawuje stressed that beyond military action, the government must expand access to education, vocational training, and economic empowerment to address these root causes of insecurity.
Despite the challenges, Alawuje remains confident in the APC’s ability to secure a victory for President Tinubu in 2027, citing the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and reform as key factors in its political strategy.
