The 17th edition of the Africa’s Symbol of ICT Merit and Leadership lecture, scheduled for May 30, 2026, will focus on the significant impact of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things on business operations. Organized by Communication Week Media Limited, publishers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, the event aims to recognize and celebrate leaders in the ICT industry who have driven digital transformation across Nigeria.

Focus on Digital Transformation

Ken Nwogbo, editor-in-chief of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, stated that the 2026 edition will be dubbed the ‘Digital Transformation Edition’ to honor those who have significantly influenced the digital evolution of the economy. According to Nwogbo, the event will spotlight how AI and IoT are changing business efficiency by automating tasks, enabling real-time data analysis, and reducing operational costs.

‘Most of these organizations and individuals have consistently been voted by our readers as leaders in their areas of operations, and we have decided to reward them in this special edition,’ Nwogbo said.

The lecture will highlight how IoT technology improves resources, predicts maintenance needs, and enhances decision-making. This, in turn, allows companies to streamline workflows and improve productivity across sectors such as manufacturing and logistics. ‘It is an emerging technology that has impacted lifestyles and changed the way we think, act, and interact with one another,’ Nwogbo added.

Impact on Business Operations

According to Nwogbo, AI has emerged as a significant force in organizational communication. AI tools perform repetitive tasks, deliver simultaneous translations, and analyze team communication patterns, leading to a better understanding of group interactions. AI chatbots, in particular, are helping manage customer support inquiries, allowing staff to focus on more complex work activities.

‘The significant power of Artificial Intelligence exists as a bringing force in organizational communication,’ Nwogbo said. ‘It is not only streamlining operations but also redefining how businesses interact with their stakeholders and customers.’

The Africa’s Symbol of ICT Merit and Leadership Distinguished (ABoICT Lecture 2026) is designed to explore efforts to position Nigeria on the global Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) map. The event is reserved for distinguished achievers in the ICT sector, with past lecturers including prominent figures such as Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, former executive vice chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), and Uche Orji, managing director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

Past lecturers have included Biodu Omoniyi, Managing Director of VDT Communications; Ayotunde Coker, former Managing Director of Rack Centre Limited; Prof. Adewale Obadare, chief visionary officer of Digital Encode; Dr. Oluseyi Akindeinde, founder of Hyperspace & NeuraL AI; and John Obaro, CEO and founder of Systemspecs. Prof. Isa Pantanmi, former minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has also been recognized for his contributions to the ICT sector.

Future Implications

The 2026 lecture comes at a critical time as Nigeria seeks to use AI and IoT to drive economic growth and digital innovation. With the global market for AI and IoT projected to expand significantly in the coming years, the event aims to set the stage for Nigeria’s increased participation in these significant technologies.

Organizers hope that the lecture will not only recognize past achievements but also serve as a catalyst for future innovation. ‘This is a platform to inspire the next generation of ICT leaders and encourage investment in digital infrastructure,’ Nwogbo said. ‘We believe that the future of Nigerian business lies in embracing these technologies to remain competitive on the global stage.’

The event will be held at the Oriental Hotel Lekki in Lagos, with details about registration and participation expected to be announced in the coming months. As Nigeria continues to invest in its digital economy, the ABoICT 2026 lecture is ready to be a landmark event in the country’s ICT calendar.
