Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to the world of magic have come under renewed scrutiny following the release of Justice Department files that include multiple references to David Copperfield and David Blaine. According to CNN. The files show that Blaine filmed a segment for an ABC special inside Epstein’s New York City townhouse, with the magician swallowing water and goldfish as part of a stunt.
Epstein Files Reveal Ties to Magicians
Blaine was not the only magician linked to Epstein. The files also include numerous photos and messages involving David Copperfield, with federal investigators examining his friendship with the convicted sex offender. According to El Mundo, FBI agents investigating Copperfield in 2007 described the magician’s connection to Epstein as “muy estrecho”—very close.
Photos released in late 2025 show Copperfield hugging Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend and accomplice; the images, reportedly taken on Epstein’s private island, have reignited interest in the relationship. And, a 2015 email exchange between Epstein and a woman named Nadia reveals that Epstein advised her to purchase Musha Cay, Copperfield’s private island in the Bahamas.
Final Curtain in Las Vegas
Meanwhile, Copperfield performed his final show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, ending a 25-year run as a headliner. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the magician’s production featured illusions such as summoning a spaceship and reuniting with a robotic character named Blu32. Audience members praised his work ethic and influence on the magic world.
“You’d be hard-pressed to come up with anybody that’s had a bigger impact in my lifetime, and probably beyond,” said audience member Mat Franco, a 10-year headliner at The Linq Hotel. Copperfield did not specify his future plans beyond saying he has “something spectacular” in the works, though his 2023 show even teased a grand illusion of making the moon disappear.
Cultural Legacy and New Projects
Copperfield’s influence extends beyond Las Vegas. As El Mundo notes, FBI investigations into his ties to Epstein in 2007 did not lead to formal charges. However, the ongoing release of Epstein-related documents continues to highlight the magician’s connections. The Guardian has examined these links, revisiting the 2007 investigation and analyzing the newly released files.
Separately, Spanish illusionist Jorge Blass is set to perform in Cantabria, inspired by the style of Copperfield and other magic icons, as Blass’s show will feature illusions that defy logic, including teletransportation and disappearances. According to his promotional materials. His work has impressed fellow magicians like David Copperfield and Penn & Teller.
Copperfield’s legacy in magic is also reflected in the arts. A 2023 adaptation of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield features Indian actor Dev Patel as the titular character. Directed by Armando Iannucci, the film includes a diverse cast and has been praised for its warmth and humor. The original 1935 version of the film, directed by George Cukor, also featured W.C. Fields and Lionel Barrymore.
