Los Angeles, 14 December 2025, Jake Reiner has shared a heartfelt statement following the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The 34-year-old broadcaster described the tragedy as an ‘unimaginable’ and ‘unbearable’ loss. His brother, Nick Reiner, 32, has been charged with two counts of murder and is due in court next week.

Tragedy in a Hollywood Family

Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Reiner, 70, were found dead in their Brentwood home on 14 December 2025. According to a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, both died from multiple stab wounds. The couple, who had been married since 1989, had three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy Reiner. The family also included Rob’s daughter from a previous marriage, Tracy Reiner.

The siblings described their parents as more than just family, they were their ‘guiding lights’ and ‘best friends.’ In a joint statement, Jake and Romy Reiner said, ‘Worte können nicht einmal ansatzweise den unvorstellbaren Schmerz beschreiben, den wir jeden Augenblick des Tages empfinden.’ The siblings have requested privacy and urged the public to avoid speculation and to remember their parents for the love they gave.

Brother Nick’s Legal Proceedings

Nick Reiner, who had been living on his parents’ property, was arrested the morning after the bodies were discovered. According to ABC News, Nick had been seen acting strangely at a holiday party the night before the killings. In a court hearing on 17 December, Nick Reiner was present but did not plead guilty or not guilty. His attorney, Alan Jackson, stated that it was ‘too early’ to comment on the case and urged the public not to rush to judgment.

At the hearing, Nick Reiner responded with only three words — ‘Ja, Euer Ehren’ — when asked if he understood his rights. He was seen wearing a suicide prevention vest and was seated outside the view of the media. The next court date has been set for 7 January 2026. If convicted, Nick faces a possible life sentence or even the death penalty.

Jake Reiner’s Emotional Reflections

Jake Reiner, in a Substack post, expressed his grief and confusion. ‘A lot of people have said to me, ‘I don’t even know what to say,’ and I don’t blame them,’ he wrote. ‘If I weren’t in the middle of this s–tstorm, I wouldn’t know what to say either. It’s too specific. Too dark.’

He described his parents as ‘the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them.’ Jake praised his mother as his ‘confidant’ and said they could talk for hours about life’s complexities. He also acknowledged the difficulty of losing both parents and having a brother at the center of the tragedy: ‘We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable.’

Jake urged the public to honor his parents’ values of love and compassion. ‘I just ask for love and compassion, the same principles my parents lived by,’ he said. ‘Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend.’

In his statement, Jake emphasized the need for privacy and understanding. ‘Some parts of this belong only to our family,’ he said. ‘Keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us.’

As the family continues to handle this difficult chapter, they have received support from across society. Jake and Romy Reiner expressed gratitude for the kindness and empathy shown by friends and strangers alike.
