Lionel Richie’s concert at the United Center in Chicago on June 26 has been postponed after the singer experienced dizziness during his performance in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday night. The 77-year-old singer sat down mid-song during his rendition of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ and was seen speaking about the incident to the audience. A representative later announced the postponement of his next two shows, including Friday’s Chicago concert and Saturday’s event in Columbus, Ohio.

Health Scare During Minnesota Performance

Richie was performing at his tour opener with Earth, Wind & Fire when he began to feel unwell. During the song ‘Dancing on the Ceiling,’ he sat down on stage, telling the audience, ‘What I have learned about my years of being in the busy, when you are feeling dizzy, sit yo a— down. And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit yo a, down. Now, I want you to know that’s the first time in the history of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ I’ve done it sitting down. That’s a bad sign, that’s a bad sign, y’all.’

Following this, he performed ‘Three Times a Lady’ before exiting the stage for intermission and did not return. According to reports, Richie was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The band’s drummer mentioned that dehydration may have been a factor in the incident. No official diagnosis has been released.

Postponed Dates and Rescheduling

In a statement from Live Nation, obtained by ABC7 Chicago, Richie’s team confirmed the postponement of both the Chicago and Columbus shows ‘under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health.’ The tour will resume on Tuesday, June 30, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fans were informed that rescheduled dates for Chicago and Columbus would be announced soon.

‘Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans,’ the statement added. The singer is headlining the 26-city ‘Sing A Song All Night’ tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The Chicago concert was the second stop on the itinerary, with the first having been in St. Paul and the third in Columbus.

Artist’s Apology and Fan Reaction

The United Center shared a statement from the tour’s management on Thursday evening, apologizing for any inconvenience caused to fans who had purchased tickets for the postponed shows. No specific details about refunds or ticket transfers have been announced at this time.

Richie’s representatives emphasized the importance of his health and recovery, noting that he was ‘heartbroken’ to have to delay the performances. Fans who attended the St. Paul show shared video clips of the incident on social media, with many expressing concern for the singer’s well-being.

While no official reason for the health scare has been confirmed, the singer’s camp has not ruled out the possibility of dehydration or fatigue due to the tour’s demanding schedule. The ‘Sing A Song All Night’ tour is set to continue after the rescheduling, with no indication that further shows will be affected by this incident.
