A large emergency response converged on Mall Avenue in Musselburgh after a vehicle slammed into a pedestrian and sped off. Officers arrived quickly but found the driver had fled the scene. The incident unfolded at about 6:20 p.m. on February 21, 2026.
The male pedestrian, from East Lothian, suffered injuries serious enough to require hospital care. Paramedics transported him for assessment and treatment. Photos from the site captured multiple police vehicles, ambulances and fire crews blocking the road amid the chaos.

“Enquiries are ongoing after police received a report of a crash involving a male pedestrian and a vehicle on Mall Avenue, Musselburgh,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said. “The driver of the car failed to stop and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver and the vehicle. The male pedestrian was taken to hospital for assessment. Officers were notified around 6.20pm on Saturday, 21 February, 2026.”
