The rape conviction relates to a 2009 incident in which a complainant said she had a consensual sexual encounter with Brand in his dressing room before he later anally raped her at his home. She said he told her to clean up the mess afterward. The sexual assault convictions included grabbing a woman’s breasts at a London bar in 2004, assaulting a woman at a radio station in 2004 or 2005, and forcing a woman to give him a massage and then thrusting his head into her groin during a promotional project in 2009.

Brand denied all the charges, claiming the encounters were consensual or that the allegations were fabricated. He testified that he had once led a promiscuous life but never forced anyone. “My entire life has been consumed by these events, these allegations, these accusations,” he said. His lawyers argued that the delayed reporting by the complainants—some of whom came forward after a 2023 documentary—undermined their credibility. Brand also suggested the allegations were part of a coordinated attack due to his prominence as a wellness influencer and political commentator.

Six women testified in the trial, all of whom are entitled to lifelong anonymity. None of them knew each other, but all came forward following a 2023 documentary and press reports that included anonymous allegations against Brand. The most graphic evidence came from the rape conviction, in which the complainant described being anally raped after a consensual encounter. Other victims described being grabbed, forced into private spaces, and subjected to unwanted sexual acts in front of others.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of London’s Metropolitan Police praised the courage of the women who came forward. “Brand used his influence, status and fame to exploit and sexually offend against women,” he said. “As his profile grew, so too did his sense of entitlement. I hope this conviction sends a clear message that no one is above the law, no matter how famous or powerful they may be.”

Brand’s father, Ron Brand, expressed disbelief and disappointment after the verdict.
