Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $927 million in its global opening weekend, the second-highest ever, according to Sony Pictures and Deadline, the film surpassed projections and outperformed previous Spider-Man openings, including No Way Home’s $600.5 million debut.
International Box Office Success
The film grossed $572 million internationally from 66 markets and 73,500 screens, with standout performances in India ($31.8 million) and France ($26.6 million) — China contributed $121 million to the global total, while the UK added $49 million.
Brand New Day also set records in Brazil ($23.8 million), Spain ($15.6 million), and several other countries with smaller markets like Peru ($8.6 million), Colombia ($6.8 million), and Saudi Arabia ($5.4 million).
Franchise and Industry Trends
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige called the opening “truly phenomenal,” noting the film’s performance is a major win for the franchise before the release of Doomsday, the next big Marvel project. Since Avengers: Endgame, Marvel films have seen a decline in broad audience appeal, with The Marvels and The Thunderbolts recouping costs but not achieving blockbuster levels.
Spider-Man remains a top-grossing Marvel franchise, with No Way Home making nearly $2 billion globally. The global box office is showing signs of recovery post-pandemic, with North American takings on track to reach $10 billion for the first time since 2019.
Competition and Future Outlook
Brand New Day is expected to pass $1 billion globally in the coming days, potentially becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026; Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey is also on track to exceed $1 billion. Meanwhile, indie horror films like Obsession and Backrooms have surprised audiences with over $390 million in combined global earnings.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day breaking records, the film industry continues to see a strong return to the big screen, despite ongoing competition from streaming services like Netflix.
