Baylor baseball coach Mitch Thompson takes his undefeated Bears (4-0) on the road for the first time this season. They swept New Mexico State over the opening weekend at Magnolia Field. Redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong made history Friday, hitting three grand slams in one game. That feat marks only the second time in NCAA history a player has done so.

The Round Rock Classic at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, pits Baylor against top competition. Game one Friday at 6 p.m. features the Bears versus No. 11 Oregon State (3-1). The Beavers notched a 10th-inning walk-off win over Michigan in their last outing. Oregon State went 1-2 in the 2025 Omaha tournament to end last season. They beat Florida State in the Corvallis Super Regional that year.

Oregon State returns a strong pitching core. Five of their top 10 innings leaders from 2025 are back, according to team stats. Veterans like catcher Jacob Galloway, first baseman Jacob Krieg and second baseman AJ Singer anchor the lineup. The Beavers ranked as high as No. 7 in preseason polls. They sit inside the top 15 now across major rankings. Baylor must hit first-pitch strikes and play clean defense to counter Oregon State’s strikeout prowess.

Saturday brings a 1 p.m. matchup with Purdue (2-1) under the clear Texas skies and 75-degree weather. The Boilermakers opened 2025 with a 2-1 series win over Portland in Sugar Land. Coach Greg Goff enters his seventh year after a 31-23 season. Baylor aims to control the tempo early, pound the strike zone and execute situational hitting against them.

The tournament wraps Sunday at 3 p.m. against No. 20 Southern Miss (3-1). It’s the first meeting between the programs since 2003. Baylor swept the then-No. 12 Golden Eagles that year in the Hattiesburg Regional. Southern Miss advanced to the program’s second Super Regional appearance.

The Golden Eagles posted a 47-16 record in 2025. They hosted an NCAA Regional before falling at home. Nine straight 40-win seasons and 21 all-time regional berths highlight their consistency. Senior right-hander Colby Allen, a preseason All-Sun Belt pick, leads the rotation. Catcher Tucker Stockman and outfielder Ben Higdon, both preseason all-conference, bolster the lineup.

Baylor enters Sunday as the tournament’s lone unbeaten team after a 14-4 midweek win over Texas State. The Bears seek to stay perfect before returning up I-35 to Waco. All three games stream live on D1Baseball.com. Big 12 play remains a month away. This nonconference gauntlet tests the depth of Baylor’s lineup, which includes 17 newcomers.
