Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a senior chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has expressed strong confidence that the party will secure victory in the August 8 governorship election, citing the achievements of the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s track record in the state.
Strategic Advantages for APC
Oyintiloye stated that the performance of APC governors and the party’s past administration in Osun State have significantly improved its chances in the upcoming election. He emphasized that the administration of President Tinubu has made APC more appealing to politicians from other parties, leading to defections.
He noted that five federal lawmakers from Osun, who were elected on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties, have recently defected to APC. Oyintiloye said this shift indicates a growing public sentiment in favor of the party.
”The defection of the five PDP National Assembly lawmakers and the endorsement of the President for a second term are indications that the people of this state love APC and are ready to return it to office in the August 8 governorship election,” Oyintiloye said during a press interaction in Osogbo.
Leadership and Governance Promises
Oyintiloye described the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as a ”competent, reliable and a promise keeper” who will fulfill his electoral promises for the benefit of the people. He added that the party is confident of winning the election.
He also highlighted the role of Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, who leads the APC in the state. Oyetila has been working with other leaders to sustain the party’s influence, even while not in government. Oyintiloye said that Oyetola, in collaboration with other stakeholders, has made APC a haven for members of opposition parties, thanks to a well-thought-out framework that embraces new members without alienating existing ones.
Oyintiloye warned residents not to be misled by what he described as a campaign of calumny against APC by other parties contesting the election. He assured the people that under Oyebamiji’s leadership, the state will witness a new lease of life.
Significance for Ordinary Citizens
The outcome of the Osun governorship election is of significant importance for the state’s residents, who are hoping for improved governance and development. The APC’s potential victory could bring about changes in infrastructure, economic policies, and public services, which directly impact the daily lives of ordinary citizens.
The recent defections of lawmakers from other parties to APC indicate a shift in political dynamics, which may influence the direction of governance in Osun State. Oyintiloye’s confidence in APC’s chances is rooted in the perceived effectiveness of the party’s leadership and its ability to attract support from across the political spectrum.
With the election set for August 8, the political landscape is becoming increasingly competitive. The APC’s campaign is currently focused on highlighting the achievements of the Tinubu administration and the party’s past governance in Osun.
Analysts suggest that the outcome of this election could have broader implications for the APC’s national standing, particularly in states where the party has historically held power. The success of Oyebamiji in Osun could serve as a model for the party’s strategy in other regions.
As the election approaches, both APC and its opponents are expected to intensify their campaigns, with key issues such as job creation, security, and economic development likely to dominate the discourse. The final results will be determined by voter turnout, campaign effectiveness, and the ability of each party to address the concerns of the electorate.
