The 52nd American Music Awards (AMAs) honored BTS as Artist of the Year, marking a triumphant return for the South Korean band — the ceremony, held on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, also saw Taylor Swift lead with eight nominations.

BTS and Their Record-Breaking Performance

BTS, one of the most successful K-pop bands globally, won the Artist of the Year title for the second time, following their 2021 win; the group was also nominated for Song of the Summer and Best Male K-Pop Artist. Their lead single from the new album, “Swim,” topped the “Billboard” Hot 100 and stayed at number one on the “Billboard” Global 200 for four weeks. In its first week. The album sold 641,000 copies, the most by a group since 2014, with 532,000 of those as pure album sales.

After completing their mandatory military service in South Korea, all seven members of BTS have been touring in support of their sixth studio album, “Arirang.” The band is also set to perform at the FIFA 2026 Halftime Show in July, alongside Shakira and Madonna.

Taylor Swift Leads Nominations

Taylor Swift was the most nominated artist of the night with eight nods, including in categories such as Best Pop or Rock Artist and Favorite Female Singer. She was followed closely by Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA, each with seven nominations. Other notable names included Alex Warren and Lady Gaga with six nominations each.

Among the Latin music categories, Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Rosalía were among the top contenders. Karol G received the Best International Artist award, while the British punk icon Billy Idol was honored for his lifetime achievements. The Pussycat Dolls also made a comeback, performing their 2005 hit “Don’t Cha” alongside Busta Rhymes.

The ceremony was broadcast live in the United States on Paramount+ and CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET. In Spain, viewers could watch the event on Movistar+. Due to time zone differences, the event aired in Europe at around 2:00 a.m. on May 26. The show was hosted by Queen Latifah, and the awards are voted on by fans based on album sales and online votes.
