The D-Block Council-cum-Multipurpose Building was dedicated on March 14, marking a significant development for the community in Kohima. The ceremony was presided over by former minister Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, who was joined by Thenusou Sekhose, a councillor of the Kohima Municipal Council, and Kevi Vizo, the chairman of the D-Block Council. Thenusou Sekhose, the councillor, described the occasion as an important milestone for the D-Block ward. Sekhose further acknowledged the support of the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) in constructing the facility. She highlighted the Smart City initiative’s goals of enhancing urban infrastructure and improving living standards for the residents. ‘Your leadership, vision, and commitment have played a significant role in making this project possible,’ she said, addressing Dr Kire for initiating the project during his tenure as Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs.
Community Involvement and Gratitude
Sekhose also expressed gratitude to the Kohima Municipal Council, council leaders, community leaders, youth, and residents of D-Block for their collective efforts in completing the project. She urged the community to take responsibility for using the facility to promote unity, cooperation, and development. ‘Let us work together to ensure this building serves its purpose,’ she added, calling for active community involvement.
Kevi Vizo, the chairman of the D-Block Council, stated that the completion of the building fulfilled a long-felt desire of the community. He thanked the government and all those involved in the project, emphasizing that the facility would be used for a variety of activities, including social gatherings, youth and church activities, birthday programs, and other community events. ‘This building is a testament to our shared aspirations,’ he said, expressing gratitude for the support received.
Ruokuovilhou Belho, Head GB, and Keduovilie Linyii, the former chairman, also delivered short speeches during the event. The program was chaired by Neisavotuo Whuorie, vice-president of the D-Block Council, while the vote of thanks was proposed by James Yhome, the media and information secretary.
James Yhome thanked all those involved in the project, including K Theunuo, CEO of Kohima Smart City Development Limited, contractor Neithongulie Sote, and KC Angami, for their constant support to the residents of D-Block ward. ‘Their contributions have been instrumental in realizing this vision,’ he remarked, highlighting the collaborative nature of the initiative.

Earlier in the ceremony, Priya, the Associate Pastor of BRC Khariizou, invoked God’s blessings, setting a spiritual tone for the event. Samina Belho and Sedevinuo Yhome presented special numbers, adding a cultural dimension to the occasion.
