New Delhi — A 23-year-old delivery worker lost his life after a speeding car slammed into his motorcycle at 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Subhash Nagar, West Delhi, police said.
The collision’s force killed the rider on the spot. Officers arrived quickly, secured the area and took the driver into custody. They impounded the car as evidence.
Police sent the victim’s body for post-mortem. Investigators continue to probe the crash’s exact causes, including the driver’s speed and any other factors.
This marks the second deadly road mishap in Delhi within weeks. On February 3, Sahil Dhaneshra, also 23, died in a head-on crash near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South.
A Scorpio SUV, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old without a license, rammed Dhaneshra’s motorcycle. The impact sent the SUV into a parked cab, seriously injuring its driver.
Dhaneshra’s mother accused the teen of filming social media reels while speeding. Police arrested the minor and presented him to the Juvenile Justice Board, which placed him in an observation home.
The board granted him interim bail on February 10 for his Class 10 board exams. Officers detained the boy’s father briefly before releasing him. They plan to charge him under the Motor Vehicles Act in the final report.
Delhi Police filed charges under Sections 281 for rash driving, 106(1) for causing death by negligence, and 125(a) for endangering lives of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The probe confirmed the minor drove the SUV without a valid license. Additional details emerged from witness statements and vehicle data.
Subhash Nagar police echoed familiar frustrations. Early morning roads carry delivery riders at high risk from fast traffic. No identities have been released for Saturday’s victim pending family notification.
Delhi sees hundreds of such fatalities yearly. Officials push for stricter enforcement, but hit-and-run cases and reckless driving persist.
In Dwarka’s case, the injured cab driver underwent surgery and remains hospitalized. Dhaneshra’s family demands justice, calling for tougher penalties on underage drivers.
Police urge witnesses in Subhash Nagar to come forward. Contact numbers are active for tips. The investigation holds the driver as authorities reconstruct the scene using CCTV footage nearby.
