Samsung may be shifting its focus from the Galaxy S27 Ultra to a new Galaxy S27 Pro, according to multiple leaks, and the upcoming S27 lineup could expand to four models, including a Pro variant that acts as a smaller, feature-stripped version of the Ultra. This would mirror Apple’s strategy of offering both standard and Pro devices. The S27 Pro is expected to include a smaller display and no S Pen support but will retain top-tier features like a Privacy Display and the same camera array as the Ultra.

Battery Upgrade and Cooling Innovations

One of the most significant changes expected for the Galaxy S27 Ultra is a battery capacity increase from 5,000 mAh to over 6,000 mAh, according to leaker Debayan Roy. This would be a major shift for Samsung, which has kept the Ultra’s battery size unchanged for seven years, while the larger battery, combined with a new 2nm Snapdragon chip and LPDDR6 RAM, should result in improved performance and efficiency. And, the device is expected to support Qi2 wireless charging, a feature that was rumored for the S26 Ultra but never materialized.

Thermal management is also getting an overhaul; the Galaxy S26 used a Heat Path Block system to cool the Exynos 2600 chip, improving thermal performance by up to 16%. This helped delay thermal throttling, where the processor reduces its speed to avoid overheating. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the S26 Ultra still outperforms the Exynos 2600 in terms of efficiency, Samsung has made noticeable improvements in this area.

No New S Pen Design for Now

Rumors of a hybrid S Pen combining EMR and AES technologies have been debunked, while According to EtNews, Samsung is no longer pursuing a new stylus design that would eliminate the need for a built-in battery or digitizer. The company is also evaluating whether to remove the digitizer altogether to better integrate with MagSafe technology, but the S Pen in the Galaxy S26 Ultra and S25 Ultra already lacks Bluetooth functionality, a change Samsung attributed to low consumer demand. There’s no indication this feature will return in future models.

Charging Improvements and Battery Capacity

Charging speeds are also seeing incremental improvements, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to support 60W wired charging, up from 45W on the S25 Ultra; Wireless charging will also see a boost, with the Ultra supporting 25W wireless charging compared to 15W previously. However, native support for Qi2 wireless charging, which allows for magnetic alignment — will not be included in the S26 series, despite growing consumer interest in the feature.

The base Galaxy S26 will retain its 25W wired charging speed, while the Plus variant will continue with 45W, Battery capacities remain largely unchanged, with the Plus and Ultra models maintaining 4,900 mAh and 5,000 mAh respectively. Only the base model will see a slight increase in battery capacity, from 4,000 mAh to 4,300 mAh.
