God of War fans can look forward to a new chapter in the franchise featuring Kratos, who will return in a game set to launch after the release of God of War Laufey. The confirmation came from God of War game director Cory Barlog during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, as reported by IGN and Polygon, but the Kratos-led title will directly connect to the story of God of War Laufey, which is set to arrive on February 16, 2027.
New figure to celebrate Thor’s legacy
While Kratos remains the central figure in the God of War universe, fans of the Norse god Thor can celebrate his legacy with a new collectible. Prime 1 Studio has announced a 1/3 scale statue of Thor in the Santa Monica interpretation, part of its Real Elite Masterline collection. The “Thor DX Bonus Version” captures the god in a sorrowful yet powerful form, featuring complex tattoos and a realistic depiction of his character from God of War: Ragnarök. The statue is expected to arrive in January 2027, according to ScreenRant.
Faye takes center stage in 2027
God of War Laufey. Starring Laufey—also known as Faye, will serve as a central story in the franchise, the game sees Faye on a journey to the afterlife, where she must protect Kratos and Atreus from a growing threat. The story begins immediately after the events of the 2018 God of War game, where her body is cremated, as confirmed by IGN Korea in an in-depth analysis of the game. The title. Directed by Ariel Lawrence. Emphasizes Faye’s role in the broader God of War mythology, offering a deeper look into her character and the world she inhabits.
Kratos’ future remains open
Though Kratos’ next game has yet to be named or fully detailed, Barlog confirmed that it will continue the story arc introduced in Laufey, while the game will likely expand into new mythologies, possibly including Egyptian or Tibetan pantheons, based on the direction taken in Laufey, according to Polygon. No release date has been given for Kratos’ next solo adventure, though it is expected to arrive after 2028, potentially on PlayStation 6 — the new game will also tie directly into the events of Laufey, though it remains unclear if Atreus or Mimir will appear.
Meanwhile, God of War Laufey will be released on February 16, 2027, and will exclusively launch on PlayStation 5, as reported by IGN and Hobby Consolas. The game features voice acting by Deborah Ann Woll as Faye and Jack Quaid as Phranque, with Quaid noting he felt “at home” during recording sessions. IGN Korea also highlighted Faye’s role as a former “just and fair Laufey” and her connection to the “Reaper’s Axe,” a weapon originally created for her.
With both a new game and collectible on the horizon, the God of War franchise continues to expand its mythology and explore new narratives in the Norse and beyond. Fans of the franchise have reason to celebrate as these developments mark a fresh direction for the series.
