India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha at the Munich Security Conference 2026, where they discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and ways to strengthen bilateral ties. The talks took place amid U.S.-led negotiations between the two nations, according to Ukrainian officials.
Jaishankar also held meetings with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric during the conference. In a series of posts on X, Jaishankar confirmed the meetings, which focused on economic cooperation, defense ties, and regional security challenges.
According to Sybiha, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade and deepening diplomatic relations. Sybiha also emphasized the importance of India’s role in U.S.-led international efforts to achieve a lasting peace in the region. He noted the discussion on Russia’s strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and the need for India’s constructive engagement.
Jaisankar participated in a panel discussion on ‘Stability Under Stress: The New Demands of Statecraft’ alongside India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other global leaders. The session focused on global security and economic stability amid rising geopolitical tensions.
On the sidelines of the conference, Jaishankar also met with Ted Deutch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee, and reiterated India’s support for the UN80 agenda. He emphasized India’s role in safeguarding global sea lines of communication, strengthening port security, and contributing to resilient submarine cable infrastructure.
Jaisankar also met with G7 Foreign Ministers, reiterating India’s commitment to global security and multilateral cooperation. He highlighted the converging interests between India and the G7 in addressing global challenges.
The 62nd Munich Security Conference, held from February 13 to February 15, brought together nearly 50 heads of state and government, including leaders from most European countries and a large delegation from the German Federal Government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The conference, chaired by Wolfgang Ischinger, focused on pressing global security issues.
