LEDGBURY, England — Eve McKenna dominated the pool with three gold medals, powering Ledbury and Malvern Swimming Club to a haul of 29 medals at the 2026 Worcestershire Swim England County Championships. The event, marking its 100th anniversary, drew 32 club swimmers who qualified for the competition held at Sandwell Aquatics Centre and Perdiswell Leisure Centre.
McKenna’s standout win came in the 100m butterfly, where she finished 15 meters ahead of her nearest rival. That performance ranks her fifth in Britain for her age group. She also took gold in the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley, adding silver medals in breaststroke and butterfly events.
Barney West grabbed gold in the 200m backstroke, placing him 16th nationally, and picked up bronze in the 1500m freestyle. Millie Beaumont claimed gold in the 100m freestyle and bronze in the 50m freestyle. Alex Wardle Grifoll, in his debut at county level, reached the final of the 50m freestyle.
The club secured 47 finalist spots in 50m and 100m events. They racked up 96 top-10 finishes across all categories. Rob Lancaster, LAMSC head coach, credited the results to rigorous training. “The results we’ve seen over these three weekends are a direct reflection of the hard work put in during our training sessions,” Lancaster said. “It is incredibly rewarding to see that dedication translate into such high quality swims and impressive performances.”
He praised every swimmer’s effort. “Whether they were winning medals or reaching their first finals, every swimmer showed a determined attitude that represents the best of our club,” Lancaster added.
Malcolm Ross, county president, congratulated the competitors in the event program. “Congratulations to all swimmers for achieving the qualifying times to reach the County Championships,” Ross said. “I wish you all the best of luck. May you continue to aspire to your swimming dreams during 2026, whatever they are.”
The championships spanned three weekends. Swimmers competed in a range of distances and strokes. LAMSC’s medal count highlighted their strength in individual events. Officials noted the club’s broad success, from top podium finishes to consistent top-10 showings.
