Mercedes-Benz is set to debut its latest V-Class in India tomorrow, marking a significant update to the luxury MPV segment. The new model, which has been revealed ahead of its launch, features a longer wheelbase than the current S-Class and is expected to be priced between Rs 1.7 crore and Rs 1.8 crore (ex-showroom). The V-Class, now in its facelifted form, is designed to offer a more premium experience with updated interiors and advanced technology.
Design and Interior Upgrades
The V-Class receives a thorough redesign, including an oversized grille with embedded ‘three-point star’ elements and new dual-barrel Multi-Beam LED headlamps. The exterior also features the AMG Line package, which adds sportier bumpers and an illuminated grille surround. The interior has been significantly overhauled, with the introduction of the MBUX infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster replacing the older COMAND system.
The cabin is designed for comfort and flexibility, with a three-row seating configuration that includes lounge-style seats and built-in ottomans in the second row. The first and second-row seats are power-adjustable with memory functions, and the second row also includes heating and massage functions. The third row seats offer ventilation and can be entirely removed to maximize cargo space. The second and third rows are mounted on a single seat rail system, allowing the second row to be pushed all the way back for added legroom.
Advanced Technology and Safety Features
The new V-Class is equipped with a range of advanced features, including power sliding rear doors, a powered tailgate, a Burmester surround sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, and multi-zone climate control with a dedicated rear zone. Safety features include 360-degree cameras, hands-free parking, and a suite of ADAS functions. The vehicle also rides on Mercedes’ Airmatic air suspension, enhancing ride comfort.
For the first time, the V-Class is available with a petrol engine in the V 300 variant, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 223 bhp. The diesel engine is offered in its most powerful 300 state of tune, delivering 233 bhp. Both variants come with an automatic transmission as standard.
Market Position and Expected Impact
Mercedes-Benz’s V-Class has long been a preferred choice for luxury MPVs in India, and this new iteration is expected to strengthen its position in the premium segment. The introduction of petrol and diesel variants caters to a broader customer base, while the updated features align with current market demands for comfort and technology.
According to industry analysts, the V-Class has consistently held a strong presence in the luxury MPV market, with its reputation for comfort and space. The new model is expected to face competition from other premium MPVs, including the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Hyundai Creta. However, its advanced features and brand prestige are likely to set it apart.
The price range of Rs 1.7 crore to Rs 1.8 crore positions the V-Class in the upper echelon of the MPV segment, targeting high-net-worth individuals and corporate clients. This pricing strategy could influence the demand for other premium MPVs, potentially shifting market dynamics.
Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed specific sales targets for the new V-Class, but the company is expected to use its strong dealer network and brand equity to drive interest. The vehicle will be available at select Mercedes-Benz dealerships across major cities in India starting tomorrow.
The new V-Class is expected to be a key player in the luxury MPV segment, offering a blend of comfort, technology, and space. Its launch comes at a time when the demand for premium vehicles is on the rise, driven by increasing disposable incomes and a growing middle class.
