A Russian drone attack on a warehouse near Kyiv killed at least 27 people and damaged multiple buildings, Kyiv regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said on Saturday. Among the dead was Taras Didych, mayor of the village of Dmytrivska, according to Tkachenko.

Attack Details and Aftermath

The warehouse, located in the village of Myla, was storing “explosive objects,” according to Ukrainian prosecutors; At least 50 residential buildings were damaged in the attack, which also caused a large-scale fire that spread to homes and a restaurant. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the legality of the storage and whether the responsible company had the necessary permits and approvals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack and stated that criminal proceedings would follow; “There are regulations in place, ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas,” Zelenskyy said.

Broader Impact on Kyiv

On the night of June 16-17, 2025, Russia launched 175 drones, more than 14 cruise missiles, and at least two ballistic missiles at Kyiv and surrounding areas. The combined attack killed 28 people in the capital alone and damaged 27 sites across various districts, including residential buildings, educational institutions, critical infrastructure, bookstores, and publishing houses.

Artem Braichenko, co-founder of Їzhakultura Publishing, described the destruction caused by a Russian cruise missile; his publishing house’s office and storage space, located on the ground floor of a residential building, were severely damaged. The explosion caused structural deformation, including damage to doors and walls, “If we once considered our office as a potential shelter for ourselves and our neighbors, we now realize the uncertainty of that idea,” Braichenko said.

Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi, CEO of Ukrayinskyi Priorytet Publishing, reported that his publishing house was completely destroyed and burned to the ground — Tens of thousands of books,over 130 titles,were turned to ash.

Wider Civilian Toll

According to Ukrainian government figures cited by CNN, at least 377 civilians were killed and 2129 were injured in Ukraine this month as a result of Russian attacks. This is the largest monthly civilian toll since April 2022, when the Russia-Ukraine war began, Russia has recently been using ballistic missiles to strike Kyiv, with Zelenskyy stating that Russia fired more than 50 ballistic missiles over the past week. About 1700 drones and around 1630 guided aerial bombs were also launched.

In the early hours of the same day, Russia also launched seven ballistic missiles and 136 drones at Kyiv and other areas, while At least six people were killed and dozens were injured in that attack. The dead included two 9-year-old children.
