Tallahassee police reported that six of the injured are adults and six are juveniles, with the youngest victim being 11 years old. Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the community is being asked to help identify those responsible. “We do not know exactly what happened,” he said at a Sunday morning press conference. “Our priority is to determine that, to figure out what happened and why it happened.”
Preliminary findings suggest the shooting followed a physical altercation. Police believe the incident was an isolated confrontation between two or three individuals and that only one shooter was involved. “Preliminary information shows that an altercation occurred between individuals,” Revell said, adding that his team is still working the scene.
Revell praised the officers who responded, many of whom had to carry victims to safety through a crowd. “We had officers that were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport victims because they couldn’t get through the mass of people,” he said.
Florida A&M University emphasized the safety of its campus in a social media post, stating, “The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority.” The university urged individuals to avoid the area to allow law enforcement to conduct its investigation.
The violent crimes unit of the Tallahassee police is investigating the circumstances. “It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured,” Revell said. He provided contact details for the public to share information, including a tip line and direct department number.
The university said, “Our hearts go out to the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident.”
