Tom Hardy, who first appeared in Peaky Blinders in season 2 as the enigmatic gang leader Alfred “Alfie” Solomons, has not reprised the role in the upcoming film The Immortal Man, according to reports from those who have viewed the film in cinemas. The movie, set for release on Netflix on 20 March, has sparked speculation among fans about Hardy’s involvement, but the answer is clear: the actor does not appear in the film.

The Evolution of Alfie Solomons

Alfie Solomons, loosely based on a real-life London gangster, first appeared in season 2 of Peaky Blinders and quickly became a fan favourite. His character, a cunning and unpredictable figure, added significant tension to the series, especially in his interactions with Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. Hardy’s portrayal was noted for its intensity and dramatic flair, with his monologues and entrances often receiving praise from viewers.

The character’s arc took a dramatic turn in the season 4 finale, where Tommy Shelby seemingly killed Alfie by shooting him in the face. However, in the following season, it was revealed that Hardy’s character had survived, albeit with one eye and numerous scars, hiding in Margate, Kent. This revelation was largely due to Hardy’s insistence on returning to the show, as noted by screenwriter Steven Knight in an interview with Metro.

“The plan changed, let me put it that way – because Tom [Hardy] does love this character,” Knight said, highlighting Hardy’s passion for the role. Hardy’s character also returned in season 6 of the series, leading to widespread belief that he would appear in the movie as well.

Tom Hardy’s Ambiguity on His Role

Despite the anticipation, Hardy has remained vague about his involvement in The Immortal Man. In a 2025 Q&A with Joe Ireland, Hardy responded to questions about his role with a smirk, stating, “I can’t possibly say.” His cryptic comments have only fueled speculation among fans, who have expressed their disappointment if he does not return.

One fan on X wrote: “If Tom Hardy doesn’t come back as Alfie Solomons in The Immortal Man, that would be a huge mistake! Alfie Solomon [sic] is such a classic character, and Tom Hardy plays him perfectly. He’s great alongside Thomas Shelby, so they really need to have him in it!” Another posed the question: “What if Alfie is the immortal man?” Mind. Blown.

Despite the fanfare, the film has been confirmed not to feature Hardy. Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, also urged fans not to spoil the movie, stating, “by order of the Peaky Blinders,” a directive that has been largely followed by the public.

Confirmed Cast Members

While Hardy does not return, several other Peaky Blinders actors are confirmed to be in The Immortal Man. Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs, and Ian Peck as Curly will all be returning. New faces include Barry Keoghan as Erasmus ‘Duke’ Shelby, Rebecca Ferguson as Kaulo, Tim Roth as John Beckett, and Jay Lycurgo as Elijah.

Paul Anderson, who played Arthur Shelby, will not be returning in the film. His character had a smaller role in the final season of the series, and he has accepted that he will not appear in The Immortal Man. Speaking to LADBible, he said, “Well, what can you do, eh? It is how it is. I thought I’d just leave them to it. I think it’s great. I [wasn’t] very nice to people in it [the series]. But people loved me.”

Anderson was also fined in 2024 for possession of drugs after being arrested on Boxing Day, 2023. However, this has not impacted the production of The Immortal Man, which is set to be released in March.

Future of Peaky Blinders

According to Radio Times, the Peaky Blinders series will return after the release of The Immortal Man, with a significant time jump to 1953. The new episodes will focus on the Shelby family’s involvement in the post-World War II reconstruction of Birmingham, which is described as a “brutal contest of mythical dimensions.”

The new series will be set in Britain in 1953, following the heavy bombing of WWII. The synopsis suggests that the city is building a better future out of concrete and steel, with the Shelby family at the heart of this transformation. However, no specific date has been announced for the release of these new episodes.

The upcoming Peaky Blinders movie has generated significant interest, with fans eagerly awaiting its debut on Netflix. The absence of Tom Hardy, despite his iconic portrayal of Alfie Solomons, has left a void for many fans who have followed the series since its inception. However, the confirmed return of other key characters and the promise of new developments in the Shelby family’s story provide hope for continued engagement with the series.
