Donald Trump has confirmed he will headline a July 4 celebration on the National Mall, a move that blurs the line between official commemoration and political event. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the event as a ‘TRIBUTE TO AMERICA’ and a ‘TRUMP RALLY,’ promising patriotic music, military flyovers, and a fireworks display between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
Artists Withdraw from Great American State Fair
Several artists, including Morris Day and the Time, Young MC, Martina McBride, the Commodores, and Bret Michaels, withdrew from the Great American State Fair after learning of Trump’s involvement. They stated they were unaware the event was tied to Trump, which led the former president to suggest he would replace them with his own headline performance on June 24, the day before the fair begins.
“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance … so I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Freedom 250 Faces Political Scrutiny
The event is part of the Freedom 250 initiative, a public-private partnership backed by the Trump administration to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Freedom 250 officials denied the event would be political, with a spokesperson telling NBC News that the group is a “nonpartisan organization singularly focused on celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and bringing Americans together around this historic milestone.”
Despite these assurances, critics have accused Trump of using public spaces to promote his political brand. The Independence Day festivities on July 4 are the centerpiece of the 250th anniversary celebrations, and Trump has already hosted a UFC event on the White House lawn as part of the same program.
Family Member Supports Kamala Harris
Amid the preparations for the July 4 event, one of Trump’s relatives, Fred Trump III, publicly announced his support for Kamala Harris. In an interview with ABC News, Fred Trump III stated, “I believe in a politics that goes beyond party lines, and I support Kamala Harris completely.” He added that he would not hesitate to campaign for her if asked.
Trump’s rhetoric and political actions have drawn sharp criticism from his family members, who have described his behavior as “complicated and sometimes cruel.” His rants against migrants, immigrants, and political opponents have made him a polarizing figure in American politics.
As the 250th anniversary of American independence continues, Trump’s decision to center himself in the celebrations reflects his ongoing efforts to maintain a strong political presence ahead of the November election.
