Former President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new ‘AI Force’ and the appointment of an ‘AI Czar’ to accelerate artificial intelligence development in the U.S., according to NBC News and CBS News. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump said, ‘We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry — Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.’

A New Role for AI Leadership

Trump emphasized that the new AI czar would be a high-I.Q. appointee, but he has not yet named a candidate for the position; he compared the initiative to the creation of the U.S. Space Force during his first term. Trump has also called fears of AI turning into a superintelligence a ‘hoax,’ stating that the U.S. must lead in AI development to outpace China.

‘Whoever wins AI wins,’ Trump said multiple times over the past week, according to NBC News. In a flurry of social media posts, he defended AI’s potential and even called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang while Huang was onstage at an industry summit to discuss the issue.

Concerns and Legislative Efforts

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have attempted to advance AI legislation in recent years, but progress has stalled — With renewed warnings from AI experts, members of Congress are once again discussing the issue. During a closed-door briefing this week, Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton,known as the ‘godfather of AI’,told lawmakers that time is running out to regulate the industry, saying Congress has ‘maybe a year’ to act.

Trump previously appointed David Sacks as the White House AI and Crypto Czar in December 2024; Sacks stepped down in March 2026, citing limits on his term as a special government employee. Sacks had previously echoed Trump’s stance, saying fears about AI’s threat to humanity are overblown and that development should continue with caution.

Risks and Warnings from the AI Field

Despite Trump’s optimism, concerns over AI’s potential risks are growing, On Sept. 8, former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon warned that companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are ‘close’ to developing self-improving ‘superintelligence,’ according to CBS News. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who has urged greater caution, told CBS News ‘Sunday Morning’ that there are ‘real dangers’ with AI and that the ‘industry lied to people about the fact that this technology had risks.’

Trump has previously dismissed such warnings, calling them exaggerated. He has called AI ‘the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet,’ but ‘it will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP,’ according to a CBS News report.

The White House has not provided additional details on Trump’s new AI initiative at this time. As the debate over AI regulation continues, both the administration and lawmakers face mounting pressure to address the technology’s rapid evolution and its potential societal impact.
