Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has categorically denied reports of alliance talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and other political leaders, calling the claims ‘completely untrue’. The party’s joint general secretary, CTR Nirmal Kumar, urged the public and media to disregard the circulating narratives, which he said were deliberately spread for political gain.
Denial of Alleged Talks with Major Parties
In a statement released on Monday, TVK emphasized that no discussions had taken place at any level with the BJP, AIADMK, or leaders such as VK Sasikala and Dr. S. Ramadoss, the founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). The party accused certain media outlets and social media users of spreading false information to create confusion among voters and its party workers.
Nirmal Kumar specifically addressed claims that TVK was in talks with the AIADMK and BJP, stating that these were entirely baseless. He added that similar unfounded reports had previously linked TVK with the Indian National Congress, but those too were found to be false.
‘It is widely known that those claims were also baseless,’ he said. ‘Nevertheless, such unfounded reports are now being spread again by members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam solely to create confusion among the public and our party workers.’
Political Context and Upcoming Elections
The denial comes amid heightened political activity in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The state’s electoral landscape is expected to be dominated by two major alliances.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) includes the Congress, DMDK, and other parties, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is led by AIADMK with the BJP and PMK as allies. The contest is likely to be between these two blocs, with actor-turned-politician Vijay making his political debut with TVK.
Vijay’s entry into politics with TVK has already sparked speculation about potential alliances and strategic moves in the upcoming elections. However, TVK has made it clear that it is not entertaining any such talks at this stage.
Call for Responsible Reporting
TVK’s spokesperson urged the media and social media users to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it. He stated that truth will eventually prevail and that spreading unverified reports could have serious consequences for the public’s perception of the electoral process.
‘We request responsible media organisations and social media users not to share such rumours without verifying the authenticity of the information,’ Nirmal Kumar said. ‘Truth will prevail!’ This appeal comes at a time when misinformation and political propaganda are becoming increasingly common in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
The denial by TVK is significant, as it adds another layer of complexity to the political dynamics in Tamil Nadu. With the state set to go to the polls in less than two years, the role of smaller parties like TVK could be crucial in shaping the final outcome of the election.
Political analysts have noted that TVK, being a new entrant in the political arena, could potentially play a key role in the upcoming elections. However, the party’s stance on alliances remains unclear, with its leadership insisting that no such discussions have taken place with major political parties.
The rejection of alliance talks with the BJP and AIADMK could have implications for the broader political landscape in Tamil Nadu. With the NDA and SPA expected to be the main contenders, the absence of TVK in any formal alliance could affect the balance of power in the state.
As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, the political landscape in Tamil Nadu is set to become increasingly competitive. The role of smaller parties and independent candidates could be key in determining the final outcome of the elections.
TVK’s stance on rejecting alliance talks with the BJP and AIADMK highlights the party’s current strategy of maintaining its independence and focusing on its own political agenda. However, as the election season progresses, this stance may be revisited depending on the evolving political climate.
