At least six people were killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on the Russian border town of Koloskovo, acting Belgorod Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported on the state-backed MAX platform. The attack also damaged a structure and a vehicle, and Koloskovo is located about 15 km (10 miles) from Ukraine’s northeastern border.
Escalating Cross-Border Attacks
On the same day, Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, though At least four people were killed and 19 injured, with casualties reported in several regions. Two people were killed and four injured in a Russian attack on Zaporizhia in the southeast — In Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, two people were killed and one injured in Russian shelling. Five people were injured in a strike on the central region of Dnipropetrovsk, while four were hurt in guided-bomb attacks on Izyum in Kharkiv, though Kherson in the south also saw five injured in Russian attacks.
Port Targeted in Southern Ukraine
In the Odesa region, a Russian attack targeted port infrastructure in the Izmail district, which is close to the Romanian border and home to Ukraine’s largest port on the Danube River. The attack caused fires that damaged a Togo-flagged civilian vessel; Ukrainian authorities reported the fires had been extinguished, according to a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Ukraine’s Offensives Continue
Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued its offensives in Russia’s Kursk region; Overnight, Ukraine’s defense system destroyed four drones; the Russian Defense Ministry has sent a reserve force to repel Ukrainian forces, which include tanks. According to Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of Russia’s southwestern region, the situation remains ‘controllable’ and all emergency services are on high alert; the Russian Ministry of Defense has also called on the public to donate blood to replenish medical supplies.
Smirnov noted that the area had been under dozens of airstrike warnings in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday morning, there were no reports of new land battles in the region. The attacks on both sides came a day after missile and drone strikes on deep territory in Ukraine and Russia killed 19 people in total.
