Apple TV has officially renewed the series ‘Widow’s Bay’ for a second season, Variety reported. The decision comes as the first season nears its conclusion, with the finale scheduled to air on June 17. The show, created by Katie Dippold, has been a breakout hit since its April 29 premiere and has been praised for its unique blend of horror, comedy, and drama.
Finale Air Date and Production Details
The first season finale of ‘Widow’s Bay’ is expected to be released on Tuesday, June 16, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on Apple TV, according to Show Snob. While Apple TV lists June 17 as the release date, the series has consistently dropped new episodes on Tuesdays. This pattern suggests the finale will follow suit.
At the end of episode 9, the storyline reaches a critical turning point when Tom, the mayor, discovers that one of the townsfolk is the last living descendant of Richard Warren. This revelation sets him on a path to end the curse that has long plagued the island. The finale promises to deliver resolution to this tension while setting up future conflicts.
Season 2 and Creative Future
Katie Dippold, the show’s creator, executive producer, and showrunner, has signed a multi-year overall deal with Apple TV, Variety reported. This move reveals the studio’s confidence in the show’s future and the creative direction of the series. Dippold hinted at the themes for Season 2, saying, ‘Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.’
Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, and the rest of the cast have received praise for their performances, with Show Snob describing the show as ‘the one show on TV that feels refreshing.’ The cast includes Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, K Callan, and Jeff Hiller. Apple Studios produces the series, with Hiro Murai directing five episodes in the first season.
Behind the Scenes and Production
Chum Films, alongside Carver Karaszewski, executive produces the series, with Claudia Shin and Matthew Rhys also serving as executive producers. Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung directed episodes in Season 1. Dippold is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
The logline for ‘Widow’s Bay’ describes it as a show where ‘something lurks beneath the surface.’ Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is portrayed as a man trying to build a better future for his son and his struggling island. Despite his efforts to attract tourists and modernize the island, the locals’ superstitions and the island’s curse continue to haunt them.
