With the World Cup set to kick off on June 11, 2026, teams are finalising their squads and securing base camps in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. These locations will serve as their primary training and acclimatisation centres before and during the group-stage matches.
Understanding the Role of Base Camps
A base camp is the main location chosen by each participating nation for pre-tournament training, acclimatisation, and group-stage games, while it typically includes accommodation, training fields, recovery facilities, and performance evaluation centres. Host nations have the advantage of easier logistics and familiar conditions compared to the other 45 teams that will face international travel and climate adjustments.
Base Camps by Country
Each of the 48 participating teams has selected a base camp from a FIFA-approved list that aligns with their match locations and training needs; these camps include local sports complexes, university facilities, and luxury hotels.
Algeria, the first team to announce their base camp in February, has chosen Lawrence, Kansas, and the team will train at Rock Chalk Park, University of Kansas, and stay at the DoubleTree hotel. Algeria will play against Argentina in Kansas City on June 16, followed by matches in San Francisco and Kansas City.
Argentina, the defending champions, are based in Kansas City, Missouri, as their training is at the Sporting KC Performance Center, and they will stay at the Hotel Savoy. Their opening match against Algeria will be in Kansas City before they face Jordan and Austria in Dallas.
