Clyde manager Darren Young has vowed to keep fighting for the Scottish League Two title after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat to East Kilbride at New Douglas Park. The loss, which came in a crucial clash between the two top teams, sees Clyde fall 10 points behind the leaders, but Young remains optimistic about their chances.

East Kilbride’s Late Surge Secures Victory

The match, which had been highly anticipated as a key fixture in the title race, saw East Kilbride overturn a first-half deficit to claim a dramatic 3-1 victory. The hosts had taken the lead through a goal from former East Kilbride player Logan Dunachie in the 39th minute, but the visitors responded with a stunning three-goal spell in the 49th, 60th, and 67th minutes.

Joao Balde equalized for East Kilbride after the break, before Bobby McLuckie, on loan from Hearts, netted his sixth goal in six games with a clinical finish. Connor Young capped off the comeback with a low strike into the bottom corner, sealing the win for the visitors.

Clyde’s Title Hopes Remain Alive

Despite the defeat, Clyde remain in third place on the table, 10 points behind East Kilbride but with a game in hand. They are also five points behind Spartans, who sit in second place with a game in hand over the Bully Wee. Manager Darren Young acknowledged the frustration of the result but emphasized that the season is far from over.

“It was a sore one,” Young said in his post-match press conference. “We were excellent in the first half and did very well to take the lead. We contained them and dealt with things pretty well. But in the second half there was a 15-minute spell where they battered in three goals and killed the game.”

The manager added that his team had been on a run of three clean sheets prior to the match and felt that East Kilbride were “ruthless” in the final third. He also pointed to a potential penalty that was not awarded, which he believes could have changed the course of the game.

Looking Ahead to Crucial Fixtures

Clyde’s next match is a trip to Forfar on Saturday, followed by a crucial game away to Spartans the following weekend. Young knows that these two matches will be vital in keeping their title hopes alive.

“We are staying positive,” he said. “Anything can happen between now and the end of the season. We have only lost four games all season. There have been a few draws, but the mentality and spirit are there, so we’ll try to pick up as many points as we can.”

The Bully Wee’s current position in the league shows that they still have a realistic chance of catching up, especially with the number of games remaining in the season. With just 10 games left, the next few weeks will be crucial for the club’s title ambitions.

East Kilbride’s victory extends their lead at the top of the table, but the race for the League Two title is still wide open. With multiple teams in contention, the coming weeks will provide a clearer picture of which side will ultimately secure the championship.
