On June 11. 2025, Shailynn Bray-Waters joined hundreds of demonstrators outside an ICE field office in Spokane after learning that two of her former ESL students had been detained. Former Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart had called for a protest on Facebook, but Bray-Waters did not sit in front of the ICE transport van. Yet, she was arrested that night and charged with a misdemeanor for failure to disperse, though her cellphone was confiscated and sent to the FBI for investigation.

FBI Uses Israeli Software to Extract Data

Bray-Waters was one of 23 protesters arrested that night and one of at least 14 whose phones were extracted using Cellebrite software. A month later. One protester. Thalia Ramirez. Was indicted as part of the Spokane 9 case, in which nine people were charged with conspiracy to impede or injure officers during the protest — the other protesters had their charges dismissed in court, though Bray-Waters did not regain her phone until mid-August.

New York State Launches Distracted Driving Enforcement

Separately, the New York State Police launched the “Put the Phone Away or Pay” enforcement campaign from April 6 to April 13, 2026, as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Troopers used both marked and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles to target drivers using electronic devices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 3,200 people were killed in distraction-affected crashes in the U.S. in 2024. During the 2025 version of the campaign, police issued 22,867 tickets, including 4,607 for distracted driving violations.

Phone Tech and Political Ties

The T1 Phone, marketed by the Trump Organization, has been revealed to be a rebranded HTC U24 Pro, according to a teardown by iFixit. The device shares the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, 12 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. The only notable hardware difference is a slightly larger battery in the T1 model. Despite being advertised as “Made in the USA,” the phone is designed and built in China, with parts sourced from there as well. The Trump Organization later changed its marketing to say the phone is “Assembled in the USA.”

Meanwhile, golf legend Tiger Woods was captured on police bodycam footage speaking on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump immediately after a car accident. Woods, who has long been close to Trump and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his first term, was charged with driving under the influence and refusing a test. The footage showed him undergoing various procedures, including a breathalyzer test with a reading of zero, and being handcuffed. Woods has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a court date on April 23.
