Historic Cathedral Hit by Direct Strike

The Dormition Cathedral in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, an 11th-century monastery complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site, caught fire after a direct hit, according to local authorities. Flames spread through the roof of the landmark overlooking the Dnipro River; Metropolitan Epiphanius of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine described the attack as “a crime against humanity, history and Christianity.”

Kharkiv officials reported that Russia used a “double tap” tactic, striking the site of an earlier attack and killing four emergency service workers and a municipal official. Additional attacks were reported in Dnipro and the Sumy region.

Ukraine Launches Long-Range Drone Attack

Ukraine has stepped up its own long-range strikes, with reports that a drone attack killed three people in the Russian city of Tula; Bridges to occupied Crimea were also targeted in an effort to disrupt supply lines, according to Ukrainian officials.

Moscow’s Ministry of Defence claimed its forces used precision weapons and drones to target military-industrial facilities, conscription offices, and airbases, asserting that their objectives had been achieved. The ministry did not provide details on casualties or damage on its side.

Escalation Amid Diplomatic Hopes

The latest escalation came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin each held separate calls with U.S. President Donald Trump. At the same time. Washington and Tehran announced a framework aimed at ending their war, highlighting the stalled efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine more than four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion.
