RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner Alaska will portray Mary Todd Lincoln in the Tony Award-winning comedy ‘Oh, Mary!’ at The Smith Center in Las Vegas from October 6 to 11, according to KLAS 8 News Now. The dark comedy follows a miserable Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of her husband, played by Tony Award-winning actor J. Harrison Ghee.

A Dream Role for Alaska

Alaska described the role as a dream come true. ‘I’ve often been asked what my dream role would be,’ she said. ‘As an 8-foot-tall drag queen from outer space, I never really had an answer. Mama Rose? I’m too tall. Evita? I’m too short. Willy Loman? Wait … that might actually be amazing. But the point is, I never had a dream role. Until I saw Oh, Mary!’

Alaska, who won RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 2, has previously co-written and starred in the Off-Broadway hit ‘Drag: The Musical,’ which received six Lucille Lortel Award nominations and won the Queerty and Glam Award, according to KLAS 8 News Now.

A Record-Breaking Drag Show in Alberta

Separately, a drag show at the Cowboys Music Festival in Alberta broke a Guinness World Record with 7,423 attendees, including RuPaul. The ‘Drag Me to Cowboys’ show on July 11 featured performers such as Sasha Velour, Sasha Colby, Roxxy Andrews, and Coco Montrose, according to UPI. Guinness World Records adjudicator Tina Shi remotely reviewed the event and used specialized software to confirm the attendance.

‘It shows that queerness is celebrated and welcome in Alberta,’ Farrah Nuff, who hosted the show, told the Calgary Herald. ‘It shows that on the biggest stages and in the biggest celebrations in Canada and Alberta, that queerness is absolutely a vibrant part of our communities.’

Drag Race México Returns with New Season

Meanwhile, Drag Race México will return on July 30 with its third season, featuring a new crop of artists competing in runway challenges, lip-sync battles, and high-energy performances for a chance to become the next drag superstar in Mexico, according to Billboard. The show will return with drag legends Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava as hosts, with Óscar Madrazo joining the judging panel.

The third season will be available internationally on WOW Presents Plus, including in the United States. In Mexico, fans can watch the series on Paramount+.
