Ben Affleck’s nephew, 22-year-old Indiana Affleck, and 18-year-old Atticus Affleck have made their cinematic debut at the Venice Film Festival, and the pair, sons of Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix, appeared in the director’s latest project, Company, alongside family members including their parents and Casey’s girlfriend. Casey, known for his Oscar-winning performance in Manchester by the Sea, described the production as a deeply personal and “fantastic” experience, calling it “the best experience of my life.”

Family on Set, Personal Pressure

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Casey Affleck said the project brought a “huge pressure” due to the involvement of loved ones — “I’ve made many films and my kids have said: ‘Qué mal.’ They’re always very honest with me,” he said. This time, he felt a “responsibility of all those people” in a way he hadn’t anticipated. The film, shot on a modest budget and with a small crew, features family members in key roles and was presented at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

Indiana and Atticus are now among the youngest members of the Affleck family to appear in a film — Ben Affleck’s own children with Jennifer Garner,Violet (20), Finn (17), and Samuel (14),have not yet appeared in movies. However, the younger generation of Afflecks now have their first taste of the industry under Casey’s direction.

AI Acquisition and Tech Expansion

Meanwhile, Netflix has acquired the AI startup InterPositive for up to $600 million, according to TechCrunch; Founded by Ben Affleck, the startup develops AI tools for post-production film editing, helping correct continuity errors and refine scenes. The deal, which could rival Netflix’s previous $700 million purchase of the Roald Dahl Story Company, is part of the streaming giant’s broader push to integrate AI into content creation.

Bloomberg reported that while the full $600 million may not all be in cash, the deal includes performance-based incentives for InterPositive’s owners. Netflix has already used AI in its productions, such as in the Argentine series The Eternaut, where generative AI was used to create a building collapse scene.

Industry competitors are also investing in AI, with Amazon building internal AI teams and Disney partnering with OpenAI. However, some filmmakers and workers have raised concerns over job displacement and lack of proper compensation for artists whose work is used to train AI models.

Post-Divorce Parenting and New Business Ventures

Jennifer Garner, who divorced Ben Affleck in 2018 after a 13-year marriage, has spoken about the emotional and financial challenges she faced in raising their three children alone. In a recent interview, she shared how she had to step back from her acting career and rethink her professional path. “When I realized I had stepped back from my work, I had a panic,” she said, noting the uncertainty of her future in an industry where pay can decline with age.
