President Donald Trump has escalated pressure on Iran, announcing a sweeping campaign of economic warfare aimed at isolating the Islamic Republic and its allies. In a Truth Social post, Trump warned that any nation allowing its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to support Iran would face ‘tremendous economic consequences’ of their own. He described the effort as ‘Economic Warfare and Isolation on an historic scale,’ and likened it to an ‘economic D-Day.’

Operation Economic Fury Targets Key Revenue Channels

Trump outlined a strategy targeting Iran’s global financial lifelines, including oil smuggling, currency swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies. He stressed that these channels must be ‘stopped NOW.’ The president claimed that Iran’s navy, air force, and military production facilities have been ‘destroyed,’ and that its currency has been rendered ‘worthless.’ According to Trump, the administration is now ‘hanging by a thread.’

Trump stated that the U.S. has been carrying out a campaign since April under the banner of Operation Economic Fury; the goal is to cut off what the administration describes as Iran’s global terror financing and revenue streams. The president argued that no country has given Iran a better chance to negotiate than the U.S., but that ‘TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it.’

Iran Accuses U.S. of Escalating Sanctions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the U.S. of using sanctions as a tool to force Tehran into submission. He described Washington’s approach as a ‘barrier to any negotiated exit from the conflict.’ Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei called the reliance on economic sanctions an ‘addiction,’ according to Yemen’s state-run news agency. Iranian leaders have also warned neighboring Gulf states not to assist the U.S. military.

Trump’s announcement comes amid broader U.S. efforts to isolate Iran, including a naval blockade. The president emphasized that Iran will never be permitted to acquire a nuclear weapon and urged allies to ‘stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat.’

Economic and Geopolitical Tensions Escalate

The president described Iran’s current situation as a ‘historic’ moment, stating that ‘these maniacs are on the ropes.’ He argued that the new measures will ‘cripple’ the administration’s ability to fund global terrorism. The move shows the Trump administration’s reliance on economic pressure as a foreign policy tool, particularly after diplomatic efforts have not yielded a negotiated settlement.

Iran’s government has not publicly outlined a detailed response to the new U.S. strategy, but officials have consistently denied that sanctions have forced them into a weakened position. The administration’s claims about Iran’s economic state remain contested, with some analysts noting that the country has adapted to past sanctions through alternative financial mechanisms.
